One were to mount a Porsche 911 motor and trans, in like, an E30, or an E28, putting the motor where the seats used to be, instead of in the trunk. No picture for reference, but I wonder if it’s completely impossible. Just an idea...

What if, under the hood, you had one of these:
Driving a FWD setup made out of an IRS quick-change like this:
Thus allowing steering. Aim the rocket exhaust up out of the hood for downforce!

You would be able to go very quickly, backwards. Only 1 gear forward though.

Anything is possible if you’ve got a big enough wallet.
That doesn’t mean it’ll be easy to do or good when it’s done, but sure, it’s possible.

It could potentially be the greatest idea in history!
Or it could be a spectacular failure.
Either way, it’d be fun to watch.

Exactly what I was thinking... unless he can somehow make the motor work installed upsidedown.

Yeah, that’d be a challenge. A different transaxle, like one from a Boxster, would help but then you may as well use that engine as well since it’s meant for that layout.

Technically you could do it if you had custom camw ground to run the engine in the reverse direction ... Of course that would be insane and nobody would do that.

Technically, yes, but like you said, no-one would. I also imagine cooling would be an issue. Being air-cooled (I assume) and located in the middle of the car, it wouldn’t get the same airflow or be able to vent that airflow above as it would in the back of a 911.

I think that and a host of other problems would come up. Nothing lots of time and a huge checkbook couldn’t fix :)

A man strapped some of these turbonique jets to a go-kart in the early sixties. 125mph... In/on that.
